SCTPN Undergraduate Scholarships are dedicated to academic excellence and assisting young adults living with a hemoglobinopathy to continue their education.  The scholarship is awarded biannually to students accepted to an accredited two or four-year college or university.  Scholarship recipients can apply annually for continued assistance.

SCTPN will follow undergraduate recipients throughout their college experience, provide needed support and mentoring activities.

Program Requirements

Dear Scholarship Applicant,


Thank you for your interest in the Sickle Cell/Thalassemia Patients Network’s scholarship programs.  SCTPN has three scholarships available to young adults diagnosed with sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other hemoglobin disorders.

Undergraduate Scholarship for incoming college and upper class members (Juniors)
Karla Samuels Scholarship for Nursing
Lori N. Fleming Belanger Graduate Scholarship

The following criteria must be met for your application to be considered for the 2008-2009 academic year:

Scholarship Application Essay Questions

Since 1991 SCTPN and hospitals providing comprehensive care for sickle cell and Thalassemia patients have co‐sponsored a Scholastic Achievement Awards program to deserving children and young adults living with blood disorders to strive for Excellence in Education to ensure them a brighter future. Sunday, June 22, 2008 will mark the Seventeenth Annual Scholastic Achievement and Scholarship Awards Ceremony, which will be hosted by The SickleCare Program at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, 234 East 149th Street, New York, New York 10451. The ceremony is a grand event attended largely by children, young adults, their families, medical professionals, and guest speakers. The event features a variety of entertainment, speeches, food and refreshments.
